Sanditon Asset Management

Sanditon was founded in 2013 by a group of experienced investment and finance professionals.

The firm has established relationships with a number of leading service providers in the financial services sector including Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Capita Asset Services, Coutts, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Cazenove, Northern Trust, Portman, Stephenson Harwood, Throgmorton and Thesis Unit Trust Management.

Sanditon is based in London.

 

Rupert Tyer
Chief Executive Officer

Rupert Tyer has been working in the investment management industry since 1986, initially joining Royal Trust Asset Management until 1990, then moving to Capital House Investment Management, a subsidiary of Royal Bank of Scotland plc. In 1994, he joined Lazard Asset Management and became Managing Director of Lazard Unit Trust Managers, whilst also developing expertise in the global hedge fund industry. In 2003, he was one of six founding partners of Cantillon Capital Management, a global equity boutique based in New York and London. During 2011 Rupert moved to develop his non-executive and advisory roles by setting up Toms Hill Consultancy Ltd and remaining a director of Cantillon Funds plc, becoming a non-executive director of Cazenove Capital Management and joining the board of Paradigm Capital SICAV. In 2013 Rupert co-founded Sanditon Asset Management, returning to the investment management industry in an executive capacity.

 

Neil Canetty-Clarke
Finance Director

Neil graduated from Edinburgh University in 1984, BCom (with distinction), and joined Morgan Grenfell working in corporate finance and securities. After a spell at Cambridge University in 1989 on the Roy Wright Studentship, Neil joined LWT (Holdings) plc, becoming Group Finance Director in 1993. He then served as Group Finance Director at Guardian Media Group plc and Chief Financial Officer at iTouch plc. In 2002 he joined Granada Broadcasting as Finance Director and in 2004 was appointed Finance Director, Group Finance and Strategy at ITV plc. In 2006 Neil attended the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. Since then he has served on the boards of a number of smaller companies, including www.schoolstrader.com which he co-founded, and Soil Association, the UK's leading organic charity, where he was Trustee for six years and Chairman of the Audit Committee. Neil co-founded Sanditon in 2013 as Finance Director and also serves as Compliance Officer.

 

Tim Russell
UK Fund Manager

Tim Russell was head of pan-European equities at Cazenove Capital Management from 2003 to 2011. He joined Cazenove from HSBC Asset Management where he was head of UK equities from 1998 to 2002, prior to which he was in a similar role at Lazard Asset Management from 1992 to 1998. Prior to joining Lazard in 1992, Tim was awarded the Roy Wright Studentship, sponsored by Rio Tinto plc, which enabled him to spend two years in industry in marketing, financial and strategic roles. He started his career in 1985 as a corporate finance executive with Merrill Lynch (Europe) before joining UBS Phillips & Drew as an institutional salesman. He graduated from Keble College, Oxford University with an MA (Hons) in Politics, Philosophy and Economics.

The Cazenove UK Absolute Return Fund managed by Tim was shortlisted for the UK hedge fund of the year award by Eurohedge in 2004, 2008 and 2011, and won in 2011. His HSBC UK Growth & Income and Cazenove UK Growth & Income funds each achieved a AAA rating from Standard & Poor's.

 

Chris Rice
Europe Fund Manager

Chris Rice was head of pan-European equities at Cazenove Capital Management from 2011 to 2013, prior to which he was head of European equities from 2002 to 2011. He joined Cazenove from HSBC Asset Management (Europe) Ltd where he held a similar position between 1997 and 2002, responsible for their retail and institutional pan-European and European equity funds. Prior to HSBC, he was a Japanese and European fund manager at Scottish Amicable Investment Managers. Chris graduated from the University of Salford with First Class Honours in Finance and Accounting as well as a MPhil in Monetary Economics from the University of Glasgow and he is IIMR qualified.

The Cazenove European Fund managed by Chris was the winner of the Citywire European fund of the year in 2004 and was the winner of the Investment Week European fund of the year award in 2008 and 2009. The Cazenove European Absolute Return Fund managed by Chris was shortlisted for European hedge fund of the year in 2008. His Cazenove European Fund achieved a AAA rating from Standard & Poor's.

 

Julie Dean
UK Fund Manager

Julie Dean was head of the Business Cycle team at Schroders from July 2013 to September 2014. This followed the acquisition by Schroders of Cazenove Capital Management, where Julie had managed the Cazenove UK Opportunities Fund since 2002 and Cazenove UK Equity (Offshore) Fund since 2009. Julie joined Cazenove from HSBC in 2002, where she had managed the HSBC UK Growth Fund and HSBC British Fund from 1998. Prior to HSBC, she was a UK Equity fund manager at GT Asset Management from 1992. Julie graduated from St Anne’s College, Oxford University with a BA (Hons) in Modern History.

The Cazenove UK Opportunities Fund managed by Julie was the winner of the Investment Adviser UK Equity Fund of the Year in 2012 and was shortlisted for Investment Week as UK Equity Fund of the Year in 2013, 2012 and 2011. Julie was AAA rated by Citywire.
